I have a pre birth dating dw kit with keller shells and after emailing dw, they could only estimate its date of manufacture as 'early 90's'. My kit is from the same time period. Age etc. I don't think changing the badge is an ethical issue, and it doesn't look like they are trying to hide this fact, but if the serial numbers don't align then its a bit goofy. I've pulled the heads off, but I can't find a date stamp inside any of the drums. From the looks of your snare you have a keller era DW (gold and black badge). The big single letters in the drums are their resonant note - something DW uses to put together kits that sound good together as an instrument, and to help add to existing kits.
